Mighty Pirates & Other Inspiration

Like everyone who grew up surrounded by pop culture, I too was influenced by so much creative media.

From video games, books, and movies, these things inspired me and helped me cultivate my own unique style. Little Fowler was the youngest of three and often got to participate in the big kids’ movies and TV shows, much to my parents’ dismay. But watching Child’s Play while still playing with dolls and action figures left a mark!

I became enthralled with the bizarre, the strange, and the fantastical! I devoured every fairytale I could get my hands on, no matter how macabre and disturbing. I watched the strangest movies and read the oddest books. But I was always drawn to the same type of things.

Spooky, funny, bizarre, and magical!

From The Labyrinth to The Matrix, my creativity was inspired by the ingenious stories of others.

I quickly found myself with a game controller or mouse in hand. Adventure games were huge back in my youth—King’s Quest, Space Quest, and my all-time favorite, The Secret of Monkey Island. These games showed me a new creative form: interactive storytelling with laughter and heart.

To say I got a little obsessed with puns would be an understatement. I mean, I still am, of course, but I try to use them sparingly. After all, a good pun is its own reword.
