When I wrote Meet Me Tonight, I gave myself a challenge:
How long could I write in first person without ever mentioning the main character’s gender?
Sam happens to be non-binary. But I wanted to tell a story where gender-and sexuality-isn’t questioned. Because why should it be?
Yes, identity and finding your place in the world are major themes in the series. But gender? It doesn’t have to be. Because that’s the kind of world I want to live in.
A world where who you are, and who you love, isn’t something people second-guess.
So if you’re into high school drama, mystery, murderous appetites, and magic-without coming-out arcs or gender angst-give it a shot.
You might just see a bit of yourself in Sam too.
